I'm reminded more and more every damn day of just how much damage organized religion does to society. In my humble opinion (and I know I'm in the minority with this...) religion has been a net negative for mankind, and will always be the ball and chain keeping us from our potential.
There are so many great things to admire about religion over the centuries, from art and music to philosophy. But when you balance the scales with the persecution, guilt, hatred, intolerance, bigotry, pedophilia, etc. there's no question we'd be better off as a species without it.
