SO, YOU CALLED THE PRESIDENT A 'NIGGER', SUGGESTED HOPE FOR HIS ASSASSINATION, AND CAN'T BELIEVE ANYONE WOULD CONSIDER YOU A RACIST? O-Kay, Sunshine...

An astounding number of people are defending racist tweets and Facebook postings these days.  Go figure...

There's this Denise Helms person, and you can read her Tweet, complete with the "N" word Crooks and Liars was too polite to show.  She seems genuinely surprised that people, including the Secret Service, are looking at her ignorant ass as if she's a potential threat to the president.

If you just can't get enough hate in your daily diet, here's a Jezebel article that has a collection of racist Tweets from the election results.  Inhale deeply before you go over there for a sampling...  It's truly staggering.

And here's a map showing where most of the racist Tweets originated:

Anyone really surprised Alabama and Mississippi lead the nation in hate rhetoric?

Folks, one of the reasons I abandoned this blog for almost a month prior to the election was because I feared for the life of our President and thought he was throwing in the towel (from his first debate performance) due, in part, to threats on his life and the lives of his wife and children.

At what point does our tolerance of freedom of speech, even hateful speech, eclipse the legitimate fears of threats toward the Commander in Chief?  Does no one else consider the relative acceptability of such language as a motivating factor for those unhinged individuals at the fringe of our society acting out to appease their anger?

Those who insist that we've moved beyond racial conflict in America are deluding themselves.  This President's reelection has infuriated bigots of all stripes, and ignoring their racist Tweets and Facebook posts only makes such language acceptable in the eyes of others.

We're a long way from a post-racial society in America.  All you have to do is listen to the losers of Tuesday's election to realize how far we have yet to go in that regard.

She's definitely not racist. I bet she has a ton of black friends.

Now, here's hoping she gets her ass kicked by one of them!

Want to know why there were no racist tweets from Idaho?

1 - Over 45% of the state still uses dial-up

2 - Most republicans in this state are technological morons and don't know what 'a twitter' is. ("Is that some faggy internet website?" was what one person said)

3 - Because there is a ton of racism in Idaho so it doesn't need to be said.

If you look at the idiotic left, then at the idiotic right, the right scares me more. They're dumb and often armed to the gills...

My son in the Navy is in San Diego. He's pissed. It seems some wingnuts have taken to flying their flags upside down to protest the election results. His crew is thinking about paying a visit to some of these real Americans and explain just what is the proper way to display the flag, which he and his shipmates salute daily. The crew is wondering if, at the end of 20 years of service, they will be classed as takers for collecting a government check. I don't think the wingnuts care to confront military members.

I'm more offended by folks like Papa Johns' CEO cutting salaries, or laying off workers in retaliation. Hanging a flag in "distress" mode is disrespectful times ten to the flag and to the country, but laying off people or cutting their wages in retaliation for an electoral defeat OUGHT to be criminal.

Well, it might be criminal to misuse the flag in such a manner, so I'll shut up. But people being assholes on their own is one thing, but cutting wages or eliminating jobs out of some hissy fit temper tantrum is quite another.

Back to the post... I tuned into a right wing talk radio show on Friday afternoon and COULDN'T BELIEVE THE SHIT THE HOST WAS SAYING ON THE AIR. They're unhinged, pissed, and utterly without self-reflection toward their commentary.

I'm hoping they'll settle down before someone is inspired to kill the president... because we've never seen the kind of unrest THAT shit would inspire.

The White folk are very afraid. I was dressed down as a race traitor just yesterday because I stated, "I don't care if white people become a minority." And I meant it.

I care about my neighbors, my community, my country. Whatever skin somone may be packing does not mean squat to me. But I am prejudiced. I cannot stand willful ignorance, assholes and apathetic citizens.

Squatty, racism will never die in this country. It just won't. Something awful and racially charged happened to the Princess just 2 days ago. Been wanting to post about it, but have been doing some self medicated therapy sessions if you know what I mean.
But I wouldn't worry about the President's safety. I assure you, he is guarded by the most phenomenal Security force on the planet. If something were to happen to this President, or any other future President. It would take a week for me to get over the shock.

Squat, so happy you have returned to the blogosphere! I too, am very frightened for the president. If you witnessed the bear hug an ordinary citizen gave him, you can see the President lifting his hands to the Secret Service as if to ask, what the hell are you doing standing there. That man may have been screened, who knows, but it is really scary that a guy could do that. I thought the President handled it well. But he point is, he shouldn't have to.

Racism and Ignorance is alive and well in the old south and God's country. Where you find a Bible being thumped you find prejudice and racism.

JOB, do you mean the same "most phenomenal Security force on the planet" that hired Columbian hookers while prepping for a presidential visit to the drug cartel's most violent section of Bogota? Or the phenomenal force that allowed a guy to throw not one, but two fucking shoes at the head of George W. Bush? The same elite squad that let a restaurant owner bear hug Obama like a WWF wrestler?
This myth we have of the Secret Service being a SEAL team of James Bond/Jason Bourne martial arts/security experts is dubious, at best. When you couple those lapses with this president's tendency to wade off into crowds to shake hands with the people, you have wonder how long it will be before some unhinged wingnut decides to try to get his name on the heroes ledger for white supremacists or teabaggers everywhere.
Can't you see the hatred directed at this president? Is it beyond the pale to suggest that someone among the heavily armed, ideologically impaired fringe element might want to do him harm?
I have a lot more fear for his life being threatened by good ol' boys from here in Amurka than I do of terrorists or jihadists sent from abroad.
Our fundamentalist fanatics scare me a lot more than theirs do.

I worry not just for his life, but for the survival of the nation if an attempt on Obama is successful. People are already hopelessly polarized. The shock of an assassination would IMMEDIATELY be swept away by the shock of social unrest, riots, and in some cases full-blown civil war. It would put this country's races and political parties at war with one another overnight, and I don't see any leaders on the national scene capable of quelling that kind of scenario.
I wish I had your confidence in his safety and protection.

"The shock of an assassination would IMMEDIATELY be swept away by the shock of social unrest, riots, and in some cases full-blown civil war." Precisely what many of these gun-toting bully-boys want. It would give them an opportunity to show off their "survival" and marksmanship skills.

I agree with you Squatlo. This is a perilous time to be a black (sic) American President.

YEA YEA Squatty, maybe phenomenal was a little much. One of my Serviceman friends applied for a position with the Secret Service, but he was deemed under qualified. The dude spent four years in the Corps. Two of those in a Marine special forces unit. If that's not qualified, I don't know what is.

"Can't you see the hatred directed at this president? Is it beyond the pale to suggest that someone among the heavily armed, ideologically impaired fringe element might want to do him harm?"
Of course I can brother, I see it a lot. But we certainly can't go through life scared of what might happen. If we do that, how do we enjoy life?

Squatlo,
What gets me is that people on the far right claim that Obama has polarized the nation instead of their extremist reactions to his (re)election. My opinion has been and is that "angry white men" are really "fearful white men" because they know how they have treated minorities, women, and anyone not like them and figure that when the power shift occurs, they will be subjected to exactly the same abuses of power as they have meted out over several centuries.
