Every now and then the national press takes a closer look at the city of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and sees something other than the Islamaphobes who make headlines opposing the local mosque, or the idiotic state representatives we send to Nashville to represent us in the General Assembly. "Murfburr", as it's affectionately known by those of us who've lived here most of our adult lives, has been given a bit of an honor.
Livability.com has named Murfreesboro the fifth-best mid-sized soccer city in America, finishing just ahead of Chapel Hill, North Carolina on their list.
After taking action photos for some of the teams in the U.S. Youth Soccer Division Regionals this spring, I can attest to the support this community offers to soccer leagues in the area. You wouldn't believe how crowded the soccer parks are on weekends in middle Tennessee, and apparently we've attracted some national attention for that devotion to the sport.
How 'bout that? Some positive headlines for a change!

Commie kickball. I really love it. I like it because unlike baseball or football, the game hasn't been modified to the point one player has the advantage, pitcher/quarterback. All players have an equal part, sure the forwards or midfielders are more likely to score than the defenders, but, the defenders if they understand angles and closing angles actually have the advantage. I like it for it's learning and testing cycles. Teams (if they are good teams) learn during a game how to play the other side, what type of ball movement will produce. And unlike baseball the activity level is ongoing, not in spurts of a few seconds, then stand/set. And unlike football, you don't have to go to to a meeting every minute or two.
