In response to a comment earlier today I offered one of my favorite Nietzsche quotes, and that sent me back to him for these two that seem to apply to today's political attitudes:
"Our statesmen-- a body of men who are otherwise so unembarrassed, and such thorough anti-Christians in deed--still declare themselves Christians and still flock to communion." (from The Antichrist)
and this one:
"One must separate from anything that forces one to repeat NO again and again."
